Welcome to the Elementary Art Room where students have the opportunity to release their creative energy. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of art disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, fibers, ceramics and metals. The elements and principles of design are integrated into each art lesson. Students are able to express themselves creatively using a wide variety of media.
In addition to their scheduled art class, students in fifth and sixth grade have the option to expand their art experience with art workshops held during lunch recess and dismissal time. During the workshops, students may work on more advanced art projects which require more time or teacher interaction including the potter's wheel, carpet loom, table looms, glass bead making, large acrylic paintings, rake knitting and student inspired projects.
Local and regional artists are given the opportunity to exhibit their art work in our Commons Art Gallery. During a one day artist's visit, the featured artist conducts a gallery tour sharing his/her passion for creating art and discussing the art work.
The school year culminates with an Art Show typically held during the second week of May. Parents and community members are impressed with the quantity and variety of art projects exhibited and with the quality of student achievement.
